FILM REVIEW: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Not boring enough to be bad, not good enough to recommend

The new Ghostbusters return in Frozen Empire and join forces with the original crew to save New York from a spooky antagonist with sinister intentions. In other words, Ghostbusters are doing Ghostbuster things.

If memory serves, 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife was a fairly entertaining and surprisingly emotional entry in this franchise. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire brings back all the characters introduced there and does nothing with them, mixing them in and amongst a bunch of story threads that don’t always coalesce clearly. With so much going on, though, the film is rarely boring, and the references and appearances of legacy characters make for an unfulfilling, but smirk-worthy time at least.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is the very definition of ‘fine’: it’s not boring enough to be bad, but it’s not good enough to even be worth recommending. If you’re a Ghostbusters fan who has to see all the films in the franchise, you’ll probably have a good enough time, but, like a ghost, this one will fade with time.

Rating: 6/10
