Another excuse for a playlist
Our final list of 2023. With The Murder Capital's high point from 5-9's Album of the Year Gigi's Recovery, 'The Stars Will Leave Their Stage' being our favourite song of the year, this cemented the Dublin band's position as our band of 2023.
Elsewhere, Foo Fighters's raw and emotional 'Rest' narrowly missed out on top spot, while Young Fathers's 'I Saw' - bringing out the best elements of the band's vocal cohesion came in third and George Clanton's 'Everything I Want' and Parannoul's 'Polaris' - each showcasing cinematic sonic bursts - made up the top 5.
'Devotion' by Arlo Parks was a cathartic outpouring of emotion from the usually measured artist, 'When Memories Snow' a beautiful vignette from Mitski and 'Unchanged' a hazy shoegaze-tinged uplifting track from Dot Allison and Andy Bell.
The list includes great tracks from newcomers such as 7ebra, Militarie Gun, Blondshell, Barry Can't Swim and SIPHO., excellent songs by established acts such as Teleman, Queens of the Stone Age, Bloc Party and BC Camplight and uplifting inclusions from the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Linkin Park.
